The transition experiences of novice mid-level academic nurse leaders from educators to administrators: A qualitative study

Objective: The shortage of academic nurse leaders (ANLs) is imminent and creates a crisis for the nursing profession. Academic administrators influence workforce’s preparation. When programs educators fail to address urgent shortage, this can result in short- long-term impacts purpose qualitative study was explore experiences novice mid-level ANLs who transitioned from administrators.Methods: A basic research design conducted gain insight into transition 10 ANLs. purposeful sampling technique used recruit select qualified participants. Individual interviews via Zoom were collect data researcher semi-structured, open-ended interview protocol. thematic analysis with constant comparison method, analyze data.Results: results yielded six themes, which included (1) transitioning an leader, (2) role preparation professional development, (3) having support, (4) insufficient time, (5) public challenges, (6) feeling confident but still learning.Conclusions: revealed that preparation, support essential facilitators during process. also suggested early emerging could build cadre qualified, well-prepared administrators, thus ensuring leadership succession. Recommendations practice socialization, individualized development programs, formal structured mentoring.
